When you watch television, you are
often met with companies creating advertisements for the sole purpose of you
to buy their products. The difference between most advertisements is the method
they use to grasp the viewers attention and convince them to buy their products.
A popular series of commercials comes from the insurance company, All State. ‘
In this
specific All State commercial, the man in the ad represents the mayhem that can
happen to anyone and that All State can protect you from. He acts as if he is an
aspiring beauty influencer who set a flat iron on a towel and caused a fire in
the home. He is acting as if he is filming a beauty video tutorial about
creating “mermaid waves”. The advertisement
wants to evoke the feeling of reliability from the consumer by using a comedic
aspect. This represents American culture well because in our society, influencers
are upcoming and become a daily part of everyone social media presence. The
advertisement uses comedy by a grown man portraying things he is clearly not
like a teenage girl beauty influencer.
All State
targets an audience in a relatable way with comedy to sell insurance. This ad
appeals to a mass number of viewers because everyone needs some type of
insurance in their everyday lives whether its home or car insurance. All State
created a comedic character that is repetitive in many commercials so that the humor
of the advertisement sticks with people whenever they see All State
commercials containing “Mayhem”.
Good set up in this post.
